Underrated Anime that truly never got mentioned?

Oct 24, 2023 09:27 AM

People ask for underrated anime all the time. There are some shows that pop up every time. I call these shows underground classics/hits. Basically shows that got kinda popular BECAUSE they were underrated. Shows like Akagi, Ajin, Mushishi, Golden Kamuy, 86, Monster, 91 Days, Legend of the Galactic Heroes etc.

There are also shows that get mentioned less but still get mentioned here and there. You can call these heavily underrated : Last Exile, One Outs, Senki Zesshou Symphogear, Ghost Hound, Ghost Hunt, Gunslinger Girl, Flying Witch etc.

Shows like :

Guin Saga : This is a perfect example. The anime (2009) is based on a novel which came out in 1979! Believe it or not the novel is said to have given inspiration to Berserk. Yoshitaka Amano (Illustrator of Final Fantasy Games) was involved in it as well. It's basically like Game of thrones, complete with a large cast, back-stabbing, everyone dying and politics. The OST was composed by Nobuo Uematsu (who was also coincidently involved in FF games). The anime has the one of greatest endings I've seen in recent times. I'd recommend watching it if you like GOT or medieval stuff.

Zipang : Modern Japanese Warship gets send back in time to WW2. Great show.

Future Boy Conan : I actually haven't seen this but this is a series directed by Hayao Miyazaki (Ghibliman) and I haven't seen anyone mention it. Has a rating of 8.11 on Mal and has zero negative reviews. But that aside the show looks noice.

Emma: A Victorian Romance : A Victorian Romance : Slow Paced Adult Romance anime taking place in Victorian era England. Literally seen like 5 people mention this show online.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the greatest show of all time but an underated show that's good or atleast enjoyable but never or very rarely ever gets mentioned. An Underrated show in the truest sense.
