Top 10 Anime to Watch This Year 2021

2021 will be a year packed with plenty of titles, such as continuations to popular anime as well as quite a few interesting and long-awaited new ones too. There's definitely plenty to be excited about in 2021.

10Cells At Work! (Season 2) & Cells At Work! CODE BLACK

Cells At Work! was a delightful surprise back in 2018 as it showed an imaginative dramatization of what goes on in the human body. Full of personifications of human cells doing their day-to-day job of running the body and protecting it from diseases, it was fun and amazingly accurate.

Not only will there be a season 2 for Cells At Work! in 2021, but there's also going to be a spin-off anime, Cells At Work! CODE BLACK that sees a new cast of cells working in a body full of poor health choices.

9The World Ends With You: The Animation

The World Ends with You was a Square Enix game that may not have been as successful as Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts, but has become a cult classic over the years. The belated appreciation for this game has actually become so strong that now it's getting an anime after all these years.

It's set to adapt the story of Neku as he and his fellow deceased take part in the "Reaper's Game" for the chance to rejoin the living. The trailers have also shown off the striking visual style from the games given new life in anime form.

8Edens Zero

The book may be closed on Fairy Tail at this time, but fans may still be looking for something to fill the void. Fortunately, it seems Hiro Mashima has been working on another series lately that might just be the remedy for the lack of Fairy Tail, and that remedy is Edens Zero's upcoming anime.

Edens Zero takes all the fun and adventurous energy from Fairy Tail and gives it a sci-fi spin. While it may look a bit similar to its predecessor (even Happy is in this too), the vast and imaginative universe Mashima has cooked up will be worth exploring.

7Heaven's Design Team

What if all the animals in the world were made by a team of designers? That's the premise of the comedy manga Heaven's Design Team, which is set to get itself an anime in early 2021.

Heaven's Design Team features a cast of colorful characters who create animals and deal with some frustrating requests from their client, God. Hilarity and the wildest of imaginations run wild as the design team creates new creatures, get into insane debates over mythical beasts like the Pegasus, and deal with little things like "which animals should taste good?".

6Godzilla Singular Point

While this isn't Godzilla's first time in anime form, this one might have a better shot at success after the mixed reaction from the Godzilla Earth movie trilogy. The anime stars two young geniuses as they take on the threat of rampaging Kaiju.

Godzilla Singular Point is opting for a 2D with 3D animation style, rather than the full 3D animation of its predecessor. The series won't just feature the "King of the Monsters", but also some familiar faces, such as Rodan, Anguirus, and Jet Jaguar. Seems as though there'll be plenty of kaiju action in the near future.

5Uzumaki

Horror fans can rejoice this year too, as one of horror master Junji Ito's most popular works Uzumaki is finally getting itself an anime. Centering around Kirie and her boyfriend Shuichi as they come across multiple supernatural events all involving spirals plaguing their small town.

This twisted tale getting an anime of its own feels well deserved after all this time. While the anime is only going to have four episodes, it is supposed to still be close to the original manga's story and will have this dark and foreboding black and white look that's pretty reminiscent of the original manga.

4Shaman King

For years Shaman King's story and true conclusion have been unsung after the original anime deviated from the plot of the manga. After getting the chance to give the series the proper ending in the manga, it seems Shaman King is now getting a chance not just to pick up where it left off, but to relive the story of Yoh and company.

The new Shaman King seems to be following the path of other anime reboots like Fruits Basket, staying closer to the source material while also giving the series some new and flashier animation. This Shonen Jump star has the potential to take the limelight like never before.

3The Rising Of The Shield Hero (Season 2) 

The Rising of the Shield Hero was one of those few anime that got a second and third season before the first's conclusion, but word on those seasons remained quiet for a while. At least it was until a teaser dropped in September of 2020, confirming that Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Filo would be making a comeback in 2021.

After clearing his name and becoming the lord of Seyaette, the Shield Hero Naofumi faces new challenges and questions regarding the true nature of the Waves and the other worlds that have become wrapped up in the conflict. Another chance to see Naofumi and his party rise to the occasion is nothing short of exciting.

2Dr. Stone: Stone Wars

In a world that's started completely over, with nothing but the power of science, Dr. Stone was definitely one of the biggest winners back during the anime summer season of 2019. Naturally, after such a strong first season, the anime won itself a continuation, Dr. Stone: Stone Wars, which is set to premiere in 2021.

With Tsukasa's army getting ever closer to their doorstep, it's up to the ingenuity of Senku and his allies to push the invading forces back. This new season is expected to have more amazing feats of science, as well as renewing the themes of "knowledge is power" versus "survival of the fittest" that rages between Senku and Tsukasa.

1My Hero Academia (Season 5)

It's no secret that My Hero Academia has become one of the most popular anime in recent memory, combining the high-intensity action of shonen action with the heroics of superheroes. Ever since its first season, My Hero Academia has managed to keep going and getting stronger with each new season, much like Class 1-A themselves.

One can expect more great character-building moments as Deku and his classmates work to become the next generation of great heroes, and they'll surely be needed since it appears the League of Villains is looking to make their move in this post-All Might world.
